CGZ at VXG 2013 and Final Results

Hi CGZians! The Video X Games 2013 weekend finally came to an end and we’re all rested up to tell you all about it. We pulled tooth and nail and threw a couple Mario fireballs to arrive successfully in Sint Maarten. Yes, you already know it was awesome! The best part was being there with the most awesome group of Virgin Island gamers! We rubbed elbows with competitors from across the Caribbean and many faraway places. Anyone who’s been to VXG 2012 would tell you that this VXG 2013 was a notch tougher than last year, but that’s why we’re there… to compete against the best of the Caribbean and the world.

VXG 2013 Weekend Event Calendar:

Day 1: Thu 25th – Travel, Arrived in SXM, Hotel Room, Registration, Welcome Party at Tantra
Day 2: Fri 26th – Breakfast, Tournament Begins (All Day), Cosplay Dress up, Cosplay Show at Club Bliss
Day 3: Sat 27th – Breakfast, Tournament (All Day), Mexican Restaurant, Annual Swimsuit Competition, Tantra’s Gamer Night Celebration
Day 4: Sun 28th – Breakfast, Tournament Conclusion (All Day), Awards Ceremony on the Beach.
Day 5: Mon 29th – Breakfast, Travel, 1 Stop in Antigua, Arrived in STX. Back to home sweet home.

The Cosplay Contest was a nice addition to VXG 2013. We brought a cosplayer with us to represent the U.S. Virgin Islands, her costume was of a Street Fighter 4 character named “Juri”. Jessica Nigri, famous cosplayer from the U.S. mainland was a celebrity judge at the event.

There were internationally known gamers like Triforce with his Empire Arcadia team, who happens to be the winningest competitive video game team in the world. Mike Ross, famed Street Fighter 4 player from the mainland U.S. was a presence at the event; and his frequent competitor Peter (aka Combofiend) spent some time with us on camera.

If that weren’t enough… International sensation, Kayane; top ranking female gamer in the video game “Soul Calibur” was handing out royal smack downs throughout the event. Before anyone could blink there was Reggae star “Jah Cure” playing FIFA 2013 (Soccer) and interacting with the attendees before resting up for his performance later that evening. Needless to say, some folks were star struck.

Despite how many awesome things that filled our time at VXG 2013, nothing was more memorable than the 1st day at the welcome ceremony. The Prime Minister of Sint Maarten, Sarah Wescot-Williams gave a speech endorsing eSports as an added pathway of tourism in Sint Maarten. She spoke with passion for the youth and their efforts to build Sint Maarten to higher heights of interest. And not being ashamed to say Sint Maarten not only supports the vision of their youth, but encourages them to go further. Then she continued to welcome everyone, again, again, and again… no matter where they came from.

That was classy.

We were proud to be a part of VXG 2013 and look forward to VXG’s continued growth… As well as building our youth with the same passion for eSports and tourism; right here in the U.S. Virgin Islands!
