Junko’s Shamisen (by sol friedman) is about a curious girl who strays from her blind grandfather to find a jingle noise coming from the forest. She returns to find her grandfather murdered and their home on fire. The jingle turns out to be a mystical fox who then aides her to avenge her only support system, grandpa. The presentation hints at manga and kabuki theater with its exaggerated themes and stage play styled backdrops. It’s executed with finesse and ends with a gruesome taste of poetic justice. Release in 2010.
