The RETURN of the 2D Platformer!
Trine 2 is like Sackboy with 2 friends in God of War with a dash of Metal Slug smile-candy. Seriously, I’m not kidding. It’s a simple puzzle-platformer, but it says a lot about how the right balance of color makes your environment and overall pleasure jump off the map!
Oh yeah, did I mention that this is a 2D game? I’m feeling the nostalgia of Donkey Kong Country when it hit the SNES. The environment has a way of dragging you into every aspect of its wondrous attention to detail. Some times you feel that you wouldn’t complain if that ‘little thingy’ over there wasn’t moving, but you appreciate the time taken to animate it.
Characters have to work together to overcome obstacles that they otherwise couldn’t tackle alone, seamlessly bouncing between characters; and taking advantage of unique abilities to solve each puzzle.
There are 3 characters at your disposal:
- The Warrior wielding a sword, shield, and hammer; an aggressor and bodyguard… you can’t take him anywhere to eat lol.
- The Thief fires bows for range battles, and for Batman-like swinging; guard your wallet, this guy is good.
- The Wizard has telekinesis to move & create objects with his mind.
You have the ability to solve puzzles any way you see fit since there is no 1, 2, or 3 predefined ways to advance the game, you can simply make up solutions along the way. This game is an absolute blast and a must have for Christmas!
